SAP MM (Material Management) Interview Questions

SAP MM (Material Management) Interview Questions

Hi friends. Today, I want to share with you some important interview questions about SAP MM (Material Management) model. These points will be helpful for you and you can also share them with others. Let’s dive into the key points that will assist you in answering the questions effectively.

🔍 What is SAP MM?

SAP MM stands for Material Management. It is a crucial module in SAP that deals with the management of materials. There are two components of SAP MM: Stock Management and Supply Management. Stock Management involves maintaining inventory, while Purchase and Supply Management focuses on procurement and delivery of goods.

📚 SAP MM Modules

There are several modules in SAP MM, including:

  • Material Master
  • Recipe Management
  • Material Management of Materials
  • Error to Component
  • Stock Management
  • Purchasing and Supply Management

If you are asked about these modules in an interview, you can explain that SAP MM is a modular logistic model and these modules play a vital role in it.

📝 What is the Process of Material Management?

The process of material management involves several steps. Let’s discuss them one by one:

1. Purchase Requesting:

In this step, we create a purchase request for materials that are required in a factory. The store personnel generate a purchase request based on the need, and we create a Purchase Order (PO) for suppliers or vendors.

2. Purchase Order (PO):

We create a purchase order in the system for vendors or suppliers. We mention the vendor’s name along with the quantity and amount of material to be purchased. This helps us identify which vendor to choose for a specific material purchase.

3. Goods Receipt (GR):

When we receive goods, we perform a goods receipt to check if the received goods are proper and in the desired condition. The Quality team checks the goods and verifies if they meet the required standards. Based on their assessment, we receive 78% of the purchased quantity. We can also check the purchased material in the Inventory Final.

4. Stock Management:

Stock management involves maintaining and managing the stock of materials. We keep track of the quantity available in stock, the quantity received, and the pending quantity. We can check the status of a particular material through the Stock Report.

5. Reservation:

If we need to purchase materials from the store, we make a reservation in the system against the goods. Reservation helps us maintain the records of the materials we want to purchase. We can create reservations for suppliers, vendors, and customers.

6. Material Transfer:

We can transfer materials from one storage location to another. If there is a difference in the material, we can only edit the quantity, not the material itself. We create a Material Transfer Posting between storage locations to track the transaction.

🔎 How to Check if Inventory is Directly Impacted by Sales Order?

Sales order does not directly impact inventory in SAP. The sales order is similar to a proforma invoice and does not affect the stock. To check if inventory is impacted, we can create a small sales order and check the status, price, materials, and plant.
